Dowling College School of Aviation Becomes First In Nation To Train Students On New "Glass Cockpit" Piper Aircraft
Dowling College became the first aviation school in the nation to begin training students on planes with "all-glass cockpits" when it took delivery of two New Piper Aircraft, Inc. PA-28 Warrior IIIs on November 9.
The so-called "all-glass" Avidyne FlightMax Entegra cockpit features two 10.4-inch, high-resolution displays, one providing primary flight information and another integrating a moving map and terrain with a complete set of engine parameter information. The technology simplifies the pilot's workload and includes tools enabling more aggressive missions and flight profiles, according to New Piper.
"It is essential that our students learn the most advanced avionics available," said Martin Holley, Dean of Dowling's School of Aviation. "With the latest aircraft, three state-of-the-art Frasca flight simulators, and a new Doppler radar system, Dowling provides a premier educational environment for the next generation of aviation industry professionals."
"We're encouraged by Dowling College's desire to add advanced glass avionics to their training fleet," said New Piper President and CEO Chuck Suma. "The fact is that there often isn't an immediate market for such advanced technology in entry-level aircraft, but Dowling has shown that it makes sense when you're talking about training tomorrow's pilots."
