Dowling College Hosts Chinese Calligraphy Demonstration Renowned Chinese Artist Will Showcase Ancient Art Form

Renowned Chinese painter Mr. Maw Chyuan Wang will demonstrate Chinese calligraphy at Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale on Wednesday, November 17. The event, part of Dowling's yearlong celebration of Asian culture, will take place in the Conservatory from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Mr. Wang's extensive knowledge of Chinese literature and philosophy has enriched his work for decades, beginning with his first individual exhibition at age 21. Mr. Wang has taught Chinese Art and Chinese Philosophic Thought at the university level for 20 years, and has exhibited his work in China, Taiwan, and South America.

Mr. Wang has received awards from the National Museum of History of Taiwan and from the Cultural Association of Lujan, Buenos Aires. He is founder and director of the Oriental Spirit Painting Association, Lan-yiang Association of Painters in Taiwan, and the Felix Oriental Cultural Association in Argentina. His paintings, which express abstract philosophy and harmonious relationships, have contributed greatly to the significance of Chinese art in the Western World.
