Dowling College School of Education Receives NCATE Accreditation

Esteemed National Organization Recognizes Leading Program

The professional education unit of Dowling College's School of Education has been accredited by The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

NCATE is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which accredits colleges and universities through a stringent, comprehensive review process. NCATE's performance-based system of accreditation fosters competent classroom teachers who work to improve the education of all Pre-K-12 students.

"The fact that NCATE is so thorough in their review makes this accreditation most satisfying," said Dr. Clyde Payne, associate provost of Dowling's School of Education. "Our faculty are among the most accomplished educators and scholars in their respective fields and they do a tremendous job of preparing the next generation of teachers. This accreditation affirms what our graduates have always told us: The course work, faculty, support services and student-teacher placement provided by Dowling College effectively prepares graduates for successful careers in education."

Dowling College, which educates more teachers than any other college or university on Long Island, features internationally known faculty, including one of the largest staffs of literacy and special education experts in the nation.

Operating within the School of Education, Dowling's Center for Minority Teacher Development and Training is unique in the region as a specialist in educating minority students to become teachers in under-served local school districts.
