Ronkonkoma's Greg Sarra Inducted Into Dowling College Athletic Hall of Fame

Greg Sarra, multi-media sports coordinator at Newsday, was honored at Dowling College's annual Athletic Alumni Reunion Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on October 8 at West Lake Inn in Patchogue.

Sarra graduated from Dowling with a B.B.A. and earned All-Knickerbocker Conference honors as senior outfielder/pitcher in 1983 after finishing eighth in the conference with a .447 batting average, second in doubles (5), and fourth in runs batted in (16). Sarra still holds the Dowling career record for earned run average (.258) and winning percentage (1.000).

In addition to covering high school sports, the Selden, NY, native reports on the Long Island Ducks, and the New York Dragons. Sarra also does three televised high school sports reports each week from the newsroom for News 12 Long Island and radio reports for WBLI/ 106.1 FM. Sarra and his wife, Katherine, live in Ronkonkoma with their four children, Greg Jr., 13, Emily 9, Jeffrey 7 and Natalie 4.

The other 2004 Dowling Hall of Fame inductees are: Jerry Lee, '73 Men's Basketball, Karrie Farrell, Softball, Oliver Adam, '02 Men's Crew, and Kip Stephens '77, martial arts instructor. The 1997 Men's Crew Varsity Eight was honored as the Team of the Year. Chris Pendergast, founder of Ride For Life, received the Golden Lions Community Service Award.
