The National Aviation and Technology Center (NATC) is the managing entity of all of Dowling's aviation technology, including: aircraft, flight simulators, meteorology stations, and the virtual systems laboratory. The NATC missions include aviation applied research and technology, training, simulation, homeland security, and management services.
Current clients/partners include: U.S. Federal Government, New York State Department of Transportation, NASA, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, Raytheon Corp., Sensis Corp., and Stony Brook University.
All flight training is conducted by the Dowling Flight Academy, under a Part 141 certificate issued by the FAA. The fleet consists of new Warrior, Arrow, and Seminole aircraft; all equipped with IFR certified GPS with moving map and traffic information technology. In addition, a Frasca 242 and two Frasca 241 Flight Training Devices replicate the cockpits of actual aircraft in order to supplement airborne training with realistic simulation. In November 2004, Dowling made history as the first private college to own and operate an all glass cockpit training airplane, which provides students the same instrumentation available to commercial pilots.
