Network Operations Center -- Chris Ihm -- updated 8/2007
On the Dowling networks there are two username/password combinations that students must maintain:
- Network / E-mail / Student Records:
To use most Dowling computer resources you will need to login with your network/email username and password. Network, email and BannerWeb accounts are linked: if you change the password on one, the others change automatically, immediately.
Systems you can access with this username/password combo:
Where to determine your username and reset your password: http://username.dowling.edu.
How to change your email/network password: http://www.dowling.edu/mydowling/Tech/pwd-change.html.
Complete details: http://www.dowling.edu/mydowling/tech/stu-uname.html.
- BlackBoard:
At blackboard.dowling.edu your username matches your email username, but your INITIAL password is different: first 5 digits of your Student ID Number, followed by your birthdate in MMDDYY format. Blackboard and email accounts are not linked so passwords do not automatically synchronize. You may find it helpful to manually change your Blackboard password to match your network/email password. After logging in, look on the left side for the Personal Information link.

Privacy and Reliable Communication
Your Dowling email address is the College's official means of communicating with you. Dowling's business offices and most Faculty will only use your Dowling email address. There are some good reasons for this:
- There's no way to reliably associate an address like sexyhotchick243@hotmail.com with anyone we know, whether a Dowling student or not. We certainly do not want to send your grades or your financial aid information to an unknown destination.
- Thanks to the ubiquity of spam on the Internet, many email administrators (including us) have implemented stringent anti-spam measures, including blocking filters and spam-detection systems. It is impossible to guarantee the delivery of a message outside of our own systems. We certainly do not want email about your grades or financial aid to become lost among the trash circulating on the Internet.
Please use ONLY your Dowling email for Dowling business, and please use your Dowling email ONLY for Dowling business. If you prefer (though we strongly recommend AGAINST it), you can AUTOFORWARD all the mail that arrives at your Dowling email account to any other email account that you regularly use; instructions are at http://www.dowling.edu/mydowling/Tech/gw-forward-offcampus.html.
