A completed physician stamped Immunization Certificate for Measles - Mumps and Rubella and the Meningitis response form MUST be turned into the Health Services Office no later then October 1, 2010. This is a mandatory New York State Law in which you Must comply in order to remain in your scheduled classes.

Dowling Students Invited to Enter Film Contest
1800Mattress.com recently launched a contest, Create Our Next Commercial, with the grand
prize rewarding $5,000. All Dowling students interested in film are invited to enter this
contest. The deadline is Friday, October 10, 2010. The commercial needs to be 60 seconds
in length, and should showcase how 1800mattress.com enhances a good night sleep and takes
your nights sleep to the next level. The 1800Mattress.com logo should appear at least 2
times in the commercial. This contest is judged primarily on Creativity, Originality,
Brand Communication. There is a limit of 3 submissions, and they are looking for creative
and out of the box entries. Video Specs include a Ratio of 16:9 without black borders and
a minimum resolution of 720x486. Accepted files include .avi, .flv, .mpeg, .mp4, .wmv,
.mov. Eligibility required contestants to be US citizens, at least 18 years old at the

Students Have Opportunity to Win Advertising Contest
All students with a background in graphic design have an opportunity to
design and submit an ad for a local company. The winning submission will have the ad featured
in local papers including Dan's Papers, Hampton Life, and Pennysaver News. The winner can also
include their selected ad in their resume and portfolio. The main focus of the ad is to attract
new clients for a pool company, for their winter service program for swimming pools. To learn

Dowling College Featured in 2011 College Access and Opportunity Guide
Young people in all socioeconomic groups have college aspirations. In fact, eight out of 10
expect to attain a bachelor's degree or higher, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
But despite these aspirations, low-income students and those who are the first in their
families to pursue higher education are severely underrepresented on college campuses.

GEAR UP Students Earn College Credits at Dowling College
For students from Wyandanch High School, college classes were on the agenda this summer.
Eight students, all participants of the GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for
Undergraduate Programs) college access program, earned 7 college credits in English and
Chemistry at Dowling College.

Professor Selected to Present at Literacy Conferences
Sarah Cordova, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Literacy Education, School of Education, has
been selected to present at the New York State English Council's annual reading conference
this fall in Albany, New York. Professor Cordova will lead a seminar entitled, "The Power
of Mentor/Touchstone Texts: Raising the Quality of Student Writing in a Writer's Workshop".
This seminar will show participants how to use Touchstone or Mentor Texts to effectively
model a variety of proven, research based, writing strategies. Professor Cordova will also
be presenting this seminar at the Keystone Reading Association's conference as well as the
Connecticut Reading Association's conference later in the year.
