- Dr. Maureen Mackenzie and the Business Society board recently sponsored a Mock Interview Event. The student board members of the Business Society include; Elize Charles, Anais Reyes, Blair Robinson and Lumar Brown. Students were given the opportunity to experience a real-world interview for one of four business/management positions. The School of Business was transformed into an office, with a waiting room, donuts, and assistants that brought the candidates to meet the managers that were interviewing for the positions. The interviewers were all professionally experienced and created an environment that simulated what can be expected! The interviewers included Bruce Haller, Maureen Mackenzie, Peter Mulligan, and Richard Leo, who is a senior officer at Northrup Grumman. Students came to the interviews dressed-to-kill in suits, jackets, pressed shirts, polished shoes and ties. Resumes were required. Following each interview, written feedback was provided to the student, which will help him or her sharpen the skills that will make the "soon to be" graduate more competitively advantaged.

- Dr. Mackenzie's Recent Article
Dr. Mackenzie's article titled, "The Transition from Self-Employed, Self-Managed Entrepreneur to Supervisor and Employer: The Value of the Employee Manual for the Small Business Owner," was recently published in the Journal of Business and Economics Studies, 2007, 13(2), 74-91. At times entrepreneurs struggle as their businesses begin to grown. The flexibility in managing a small business may fade as an entrepreneur is forced to increase his or her staff. Employment laws need to be articulated and enforced. Mackenzie's article reports on the results of an empirical study on the motives and behaviors of small business owners to create, implement, and maintain an employee manual, which can move the company from a mom-pop employment culture to a professional work environment.
