Dowling College Earth and Marine Sciences has new arrivals of "hippocampus", or, seahorses to the Coral lab! They were acquired near shore outside of the Moriches Inlet of Moriches Bay earlier in the summer. They are doing basic observations to determine which of the 32 species of seahorses these belong to assess their interactions with local eel grass, red algae and another local species of pipefish acquired from Moriches and Great South Bays. Great care has been given to creating an estuarine environment comparable to that from which they came. The different elements of their new "Dowling" home were acquired from the Great South Bay by Marine Science staff and students. Please stop by anytime, and by all means, encourage your friends and coworkers to pay a visit as well. Feeding time is the best time! Call x5046 to learn more!
