On Oct 4th, 2007, 55 students from Prof. Lou Siegel's Dowling College First Year Experience classes explored the South Shore Estuary by boat. The students boarded the Captree Star II at the marina at Captree State Park, which is only a short trip from the Oakdale campus. They took physical and chemical measurements of the air and water and were able to observe the bottom using an underwater camera in an attempt to characterize this important estuary. One of the significant factors measured was the ichthyologic (fish,) population. Much was learned and a great time was had by all.
