Dowling recently hosted the Superintendents/Presidents Task Force in the Fortunoff Hall Ballroom. Under the auspices of the LIWorks Coalition and the LIRCHE, a group of Long Island College Presidents and school district Superintendents met to address issues relating to the difficulties they encounter in attracting a top-quality workforce. They determined that they face the same challenges to recruitment (shrinking labor pool, inadequately skilled workforce, high housing costs, inadequate public transportation, congested roadways, and changing regional demographics) as all other employers. They determined that by working together, high education and K-12 institutions could help to create an environment that would attract a first -class workforce to LI, develop the competencies of current and future teachers, and provide outstanding learning experiences for our students.
