Looking Toward 2020 From the Tip of Brooklyn to the Tip of Montauk
Recently, members of the Graduating Senior Class and the Department of Earth and Marine Sciences hosted the Long Island Eco-Summit III-2006. A presentation on energy alternatives for Long Island by Dr. Lee Koppelman, Center for Regional Policy Studies, was among the highlights. The event also featured workshops and panel discussions on other hot-button Long Island environmental issues such as wetland loss, sea level rise, water quality, wildlife conservation, and land use. The region's leading researchers discussed their work in these and other areas, and various preservation initiatives were reviewed. A tour of Dowling's Kramer Science Center's Coral Reef and Horseshoe Crab Conservation Laboratories and event orientation was given by Dr. John T. Tanacredi, Chairman of Dowling's Department of Earth and Marine Sciences. Participants were welcomed by New York State Assemblywoman Ginny Fields.
