When Lori Di Marco (nee Fingerhut) entered her junior year at Dowling College in 1989, she had no idea that she was about to make the connection of a lifetime. An accounting major looking to learn and earn while in school, Lori reached out to local CPA Helen Silva seeking employment. Helen, who earned her B.B.A. in accounting from Dowling in 1975, had complete confidence in Lori's abilities having first-hand knowledge of the quality education she was receiving.

Helen, who first established her business in 1983, had considerable experience and grew her company substantially within its first three years of operation. As time progressed, the employer/employee relationship that Helen and Lori shared transformed into professional camaraderie.

After Lori's graduation from Dowling in 1990, she realized that successful accountants require a certain level of exposure and experience before entering private practice. Lori heeded Helen's advice and sought employment at larger companies and corporations. After working at several firms, including Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck & Co., P.C., Weight Watchers International, Inc., and Entenmanns Inc., Lori earned the breadth of experience required to flourish in the profession.

In the summer of 2002, Helen and Lori reunited and entered into a partnership, establishing Silva & Di Marco, LLP, Certified Public Accountants, a Peer Reviewed Firm located in Sayville, NY. Both are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) and National Conference of CPA Practitioners (NCCPAP). Silva & Di Marco's staff provides a range of professional services to individual clients, business entities, small corporations, estates and trusts and non-profit organizations.

Over the years, Helen and Lori have maintained a friendly relationship that has now become professional, and traces it roots to Dowling College. "Without Dowling, we may not have connected. We attribute part of our success to the high-quality education and personal atmosphere afforded at Dowling College."

The Paul and Terry Townsend School of Business at Dowling College has revamped its Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Accounting, along with six MBA programs, all of which recently received approval by the New York State Department of Education.
