Influence of Yiddish Discussed

On March 22, Dowling welcomed Dr. Kenneth Libo, professor of American Jewish History at Hunter College, for his presentation, "Bialystok to Broadway and Beyond: The Influence of the Yiddish Language on American Popular Culture". The presentation explored Yiddish as a language and a culture and focused on the five major areas of the entertainment industry: motion pictures, popular music, radio/TV, the legitimate theatre, and stand-up comedy. The event was part of the College's year-long celebration of Jewish and Jewish-American Contributions to American Culture.
