Education Graduate Student, Come and Enroll in EDU 6506
Dear Education Graduate Student,
How would you like to enroll in a graduate course that will probably be the most significant course in your entire career? How would you like to provide a student with the chance to lead a successful, purposeful life? If you respond with a resounding “yes,” then please join EDU 6506 this fall. You will become an individual tutor for one of Dowling’s Potentially Gifted College Students with Learning Disabilities. As a “thank you” for your service to the college (and your extraordinary learning experience), you receive 3 credits for the course but only pay for 1 ½. However, the course is closed when each of the students in our Program has a graduate student tutor. You will also have the opportunity to work with an elementary school student with special needs, teaching the same strategies that you use with the college student, so that in time, every student with learning disabilities will arrive at college with appropriate strategies to function independently from day one. We will meet in seminar on Thursdays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and tutor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm until 5:00pm (times may be adjusted for a few of our graduate students). So, if this is an option that your are considering, remember to enroll ASAP! *******In addition, we are planning to offer the option of taking both 6505 and 6506 in the same semester. Thanks to graduate students like you our students with learning disabilities who have completed their studies are in the following careers: an Assistant District Attorney, a Prosthetics Expert, Teachers in Elementary and Secondary Education, a State Police Officer, Sport Management Experts, Hotel Management Personnel, Social Workers and students in various graduate schools. I look forward to working together as colleagues with you in EDU 6506. Sincerely, Dorothy A. Stracher, Director, The Program for Potentially Gifted College Students With Learning Disabilities |
