| Forwarding mail to an account off-campus |
Chris Ihm - 11/2006 Discussion: Some of our users prefer to use a Hotmail, MSN, Netscape or other account as their primary e-mail. They would like to forward to that account all mail targeted at their Dowling e-mail account. You can setup automatic forwarding by following the instructions below. Just keep in mind that Dowling considers "your-email@dowling.edu" to be its primary means of official communication to you. Even if you setup auto-forwarding as described below, it remains very important that you check your Dowling email regularly. Important note: We urge you to setup a "delete spam" rule first. When you setup auto-forwarding, any spam you receive at your-email@dowling.edu will also be auto-forwarded. Your ISP may then decide that you are sending spam, and block ALL of your forwarded email. To reduce the amount of spam you receive, use your Dowling account only for Dowling business. To reduce the amount of spam forwarded, setup a "delete spam" rule first, then setup the autoforward rule below. Procedure:
Now send yourself an e-mail and check that it arrives in your Dowling mailbox. Then check your destination email account to see that it has arrived - this usually takes only a few minutes. Your mail will continue to arrive at Dowling even though it is being auto-forwarded to your other account. You should still check your Dowling email account at least once a month, and delete unneeded messages so that your mailbox does not fill to capacity.
