Blackboard Usernames and Passwords for Students

Blackboard Username:

Your Blackboard username is the same as your Dowling network/email username. It always consists of three letters, plus one or more numbers. Activate your email/student records account by visiting http://username.dowling.edu if you have not done so already.

Blackboard Password:

Your Blackboard password IS NOT THE SAME as your Dowling network/email password. It consists of:

The first five numbers of your NEW student ID number, plus
The six digit date of birth (total of 11 digits)

For example, John Q. Smith (jqs12), Student ID number 900123456, born on July 4, 1976 might be:

Username: jqs12
Password: 90012070476

Your default email address in Blackboard is the Dowling College email address that is provided to all students upon registration. For example, John Q. Smith's default email address in Blackboard would be jqs12@dowling.edu

Notes:

  • Your Social Security Number is NOT part of your password. Use your Student ID Number instead.
  • IE7  Internet Explorer 7 FAILS on this version of Blackboard. Use IE6  IE6 or ffox  Firefox.
  • If you don't know your Student ID Number, find it:
    1. On your Dowling bill,
    2. On your Class Schedule,
    3. In the Student Records System, top-right of your Student Schedule, or
    4. Under your photo on your Student ID Card.
  • If your birthdate is not in our Student Records System, try a password consisting of only the first 5 digits of your Student ID number. If that fails, call the Help Desk at 244-3445 during normal business hours.
  • If your Social Security Number is not in our Student Records System, you will not be able to activate your network/email account. Visit the Update Directory Information page to update your personal information.

Privacy and Reliability:

Your Dowling e-mail account is the official communication link between you and Dowling. Off-campus accounts cause privacy and reliability problems: privacy because we can't be sure who hotchick342@yahoo.com might be, and reliability because off-campus mail mingles with spam and might be blocked. Please use ONLY your Dowling email for Dowling business, and please use your Dowling email ONLY for Dowling business.
