Do you wake up everyday and say, “I love my job!”? I am fortunate enough to say that is the case. I am an elementary school teacher and I absolutely love my career.
The close of August is the sign that it is time to go back to school. It’s time to meet new faces, new families and overcome new challenges. Excitement and nervousness fill the hallways and classrooms on the first day of school. It is my job to nurture the excitement and cure the nervousness.
Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions that a person can choose. Each day I go into my classroom, I never know what may happen. I have a blueprint but when you deal with children, plans can change at any time! That’s one of the great things about teaching, spontaneity. If your class shows an interest in a topic, you can take their learning to new heights because they take ownership over their learning due to their invested interest in the subject matter.
In this time of high stakes testing, we must not forget the importance in creating a fun and interesting way to deliver the curriculum. Children may forget things they learned for the NYS ELA exam or the NYS Mathematics exam but they won’t forget how their teacher made them feel everyday. I truly believe in creating a classroom family environment where the children feel free to take risks and make mistakes. This environment nurtures the necessary academic growth as well as social growth.
I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher. I am truly thankful and work hard every day. My goal each year is to inspire my students to continue living life as a wonderful person and to always put forth their best effort in life.
Everyone must find a passion in life and pursue it. I am pursuing my dream, my passion…I am teaching!
