Using Search Engines
If a plagiarized passage came from a publicity available web site, you can try tracking it down by using one of the following search engines:
|
AlltheWeb AltaVista Dogpile |
Google HotBot |
Choose a distinctive phrase that arouses suspicion and enter it in the search box within quotation marks (i.e., "For Tolkien, evil originates in the abuse of knowledge")1.
Some tips:
- If you don't get any results, you can shorten your search phrase or try another one.
- To quickly find terms on a lengthy web page, use the find command (Ctrl + F).
- Go to any of the above search engines and search on "term paper" and the subject of your choice.
- No one search engine covers everything available on the web. Try your search in multiple engines.
