In today's episode, Dr. Rich Bernato speaks with Dr. Sandra Loughran, Associate Professor of Human Development and Learning at Dowling. The topic is early childhood education and pre-kindergarten (pre-K) programs, including universal pre-kindergarten (UPK). Dr. Loughran draws on her years of experience working in the pre-k environment and running private programs to discuss what is needed to make a good pre-k program run. She talks about the skills and knowledge the teachers need (a good liberal arts background being one) as well as how pre-K teachers could benefit from the type of training given to social workers. The conversation also covers the importance of communicating with parents and ways to assess pre-K programs.-
