If we don't have it

If the Library does not have the book you are looking for, you have a number of options:

  • Interlibrary Loan (when available, it will be sent from another library - usually within 10-12 days)
  • Research Loan Program (RLP) (allows you to take books out from participating libraries on Long Island)
  • Suffolk and Nassau County public libraries, for those who have a public library card.
  • A zip code proximity search via WorldCat shows public and academic institutions.

Browsing a library's catalog can be a good first step in determining what types of books have been written on your topic and are readily available. Most libraries have their catalogs online. You can also use the Library's subscription to Worldcat to search thousands of library catalogs at once. Under each book will be a "libraries that own item" link that will give you a list of libraries by state.
