How do I find book reviews?
The library offers several ways to find one. But before you start, keep in mind:
- Only a very small fraction of all books published are reviewed.
- Book reviews generally appear soon after a book is published. Be sure to have the correct title, author, and publication year of your book, so the search process is easier. Our library catalog, or WorldCat, can help you verify these details.
- Book reviews are different from literary criticism. Literary criticism analyzes various aspects of a work, and can continue for decades or even centuries after a book first appears (as with Jane Austen's novels, for example.) Book reviews, on the other hand, capture the reaction of critics when the book is new. Also, book reviews are generally briefer than literary criticism, which can fill multi-page articles or entire books themselves. *
