Why do I see a blank screen when I try to view my article?
There are a number of potential causes for this problem. Some of the most common are:
- The first page of your document has a large amount of white space.
- Scroll down or advance to the next page to reach an area of the document that contains text and graphics.
- You may be using an older version of Internet Explorer or Adobe Acrobat. Consider upgrading your software, as both upgrades are available for free.
- The Adobe Acrobat Reader may need to be reconfigured to view documents outside your browser. To do so:
- Acrobat Version 4.0
- From the File Menu, select "Preferences/General"
- In the new box, go to "Options"
- Uncheck "Web Browser Integration"
- Acrobat Version 5.0
- From the Edit Menu, select "Preferences"
- Select "Options"
- Go to "Web Browser Options" and make sure that "Display PDF in Browser" is not selected
- Acrobat Version 8.0
- From the Edit Menu, select "Preferences"
- Select "Internet"
- Go to "Web Browser Options" and make sure that "Display PDF in Browser" is not selected
Note that if you make these changes, when you click on the link to your document, it will open in a separate window on top of your browser.
- Acrobat Version 4.0
- The security settings on your computer may be preventing the article from displaying. Try modifying your security settings and retrieving the document again.
- In Internet Explorer
- Click on "Tools" on your File Bar
- Go to "Internet Options"
- Select the "Security" tab
- Select "Internet"
- Click on the "Default Level" button
- Click on "Okay"
- Close the program and reopen it for the changed settings to take effect.
- Other settings to change are:
- Turn off pop-up and ad-blocking software.
- Check your firewall and modify settings to allow access.
- In Internet Explorer
