We would also like to hear from you if you have any additional information on the locations, buildings, or people mentioned in this collection.
The mission of the Dowling College Archives and Special Collections is to identify, preserve, and make accessible materials that document the history of Dowling College, Idle Hour Mansion and the Vanderbilts, and the community of Oakdale. This includes subsequent tenants of the Idle Hour Estate such as the International Metaphysicians, the National Dairy Research Library, and the Idle Hour Artists' Colony; institutions such as the South Side Sportsmens Club; and the businesses, buildings, and people of Oakdale.
The Archives and Special Collections collect a wide range of records, from scrapbooks and photographs to books, manuscripts, diaries, correspondence, memorabilia, and more. If you have items that you would like to donate, please contact Diane Holliday to discuss further options.
