Long Island’s public transportation system includes buses and trains. The train station is a 7- to 10-minute walk from the Oakdale campus. Taxi services are available, however they may be costly if traveling long distances.

In order to operate a vehicle in the U.S., New York State recognizes drivers licenses issued by other nations. An International Driving permit is not a license, but it can help a Police Officer to recognize a license not in English. If you wish to obtain a New York State driver's license please visit the International Students Office for information. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO GIVE UP YOUR FOREIGN DRIVERS LICENSE UNLESS YOU MAKE SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR ITS RETURN IN THE FUTURE.

Dowling College is located about 1 hour from J.F. Kennedy International Airport, 1 hour and 20 minutes from La Guardia Airport, 2 hours from Newark International Airport, and 15 minutes from Islip MacArthur Airport. Numerous transportation services operate out of each airport.

Each airport has many transportation service options, information and pickup is available in the Ground Transportation area near the Baggage Claim area. The cost of a share ride from JFK or LaGuardia is approximately $50.00, and from MacArthur is $20.00.

The Long Island Railroad operates a train that picks up passengers at JFK Airport. Take this train to Jamaica and transfer to the Patchogue line. Get off of the train at the Oakdale Railroad station.

The climate of Long Island varies widely during the four seasons. The warmest monthly average temperatures occur during July and August (82 degrees F), the lowest in January (39F avg. high / avg. low 23 F). Snow can be expected occasionally beginning as early as November and continuing as late as April.
