Center for Intergenerational Policy and Practice
The Center's Philosophy

The Center's vision is a Long Island that values all generations. It believes that young and older people have common, basic human needs:
  • To be intellectually stimulated;

  • To develop self esteem;

  • To maintain links between the past and future;

  • To feel purposeful;

  • To enjoy meaningful relationships;

  • To have a sense of place in relation to the rest of society;

  • And to feel competent, worthwhile, and affirmed.

The time has come for advocates to work together to build an intergenerational agenda. We believe:

  • Intergenerational collaboration will unite and improve our communities.

  • Every person, younger and older, is a resource and adds value.

  • Public policy should meet the needs of all generations.

  • Resources are more wisely used when they connect the generations rather than separate them.

  • Discrimination in any form limits a persons potential to contribute to the development of their community.
