Susanne Bleiberg Seperson, Ph.D. is the Chair of the Department of Sociology and the Director of the Center for Intergenerational Policy and Practice at Dowling College, Oakdale, NY. She received her doctorate from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Dr. Bleiberg Seperson is president of the Dowling College Chapter of the New York State United Teachers, the full time faculty union, and has held the office for a record seven terms.
She has been a member of the Executive Council since 1997. Dr. Bleiberg is a past president of the New York State Sociological Association and, since 2000, is the Executive Editor of the
Journal of Business and Economic Studies. She was honored by the New York State United Teachers union as a Higher Education Member of the Year in 2003 and by the City University of New York Graduate Center with the Ph.D. Alumni Association Special Achievement Award in 2005. She has also been recognized by the Alpha Chi Honor Society with honorary membership, and received a Dowling College Pride Award and a New York State Sociological Association - Leadership & Service Award. Dr. Bleiberg Seperson has also served as a member of accreditation teams of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the New York State United Teachers Higher Education Council.
Dr. Bleiberg Seperson has received grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the International Research Exchange (IREX) Foundation, and the Foundation for Long Term Care.
She is the co-editor of Elder Care and Service Learning: A Handbook, published by Auburn House, Westport, CT and has written a number of articles on the Holocaust published by Jagiellonian Press of the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland.
Dr. Bleiberg Seperson's academic interests in gerontology, the Holocaust, labor, global and intergenerational studies are driven by her concern about issues of social justice and tolerance.
