Honors Program
About Us

The Honors Program at Dowling College is unique among colleges in this region because it incorporates the College's philosophy of personal education with a cosmopolitan approach to field experience. In addition to taking honors sections of all Liberal Arts core requirements, either as a four-year or a transfer student, you will have frequent opportunities to visit the many cultural treasures that New York City has to offer.

Our program consists of specially created versions of our core education courses and is compatible with any major, allowing you total career flexibility. As one of the few students accepted into the Honors Program, you share an enriched curriculum in which you can explore how far your ability and curiosity can take you.

The Honors curriculum lets you flourish in a program that values what you value. The Program's selective four-year degree curriculum is characterized by its enriched, supportive environment. We admit only about 25 motivated, capable students each year. As an Honors Program student, your passionate creativity, intellectual curiosity and noted accomplishments receive special attention and resources in small classes with faculty devoted to your success.

In the Honors Program you are a member of a community where people are genuinely interested in what you think and how you arrived at your beliefs. You have intensive, and often intense, interaction with outstanding professors in small classes. Expect to be stimulated, inspired and challenged!

The Honors Program provides you with an opportunity for social as well as intellectual interaction with you peers. Over the course of two, three or four years, honors students form a cohort in which they take many of the same classes together. In the first semester alone, over half of your coursework is exclusive to Honors Program students. The remainder is drawn from Dowling's wide-ranging academic offerings in arts, humanities, sciences, education, business and aviation.

Further, each honors student will select a mentor from the full time faculty. Your mentor will meet with you regularly, discussing your ideas, working with you to sort out any problems you may experience, and helping you plan which courses to take in future semesters
