About Our Honors Program

Do you consider yourself highly motivated, academically superior, and creative-minded? Our Honors Program may be the right fit for you.

The classes shared by students in our Honors Program are specifically developed versions of our general education core requirements. You will have many opportunities for intellectual and cultural experiences, including lectures, discussions, debates, films, and other events that go beyond regular core curriculum activities. You will also be expected to develop and carry out projects that serve the public good at Dowling College and beyond, including eight required hours of community service time per semester.

Once you are accepted into our Honors Program, you are immediately eligible for a $1,000 scholarship per semester. However, there are ample opportunities for additional scholarships and financial aid from the college.

A chance to make a difference.

As an Honors Program student, you become vital to student life at Dowling. We will encourage you to participate in the many student clubs on campus, eventually taking leadership positions. An important element of the Honors Program is that you work for the benefit of the college, the local community, and the global community. You will be encouraged to participate in community service and government programs that involve you in the social, environmental, and educational issues in our amazingly diverse region.

We believe that such experience is integral to a full college education. It helps you to learn a wide range of skills, and to combine academic understanding with practical concerns. It will also serve you very well in your future career, increasing the number of options available to you after you leave college and opening doors to public life as well.
