Dowling College Grant Office
Grant Proposal Submission Procedures
Dowling College encourages faculty and staff to engage in professional development, grants research and sponsored program activities. Dowling College supports the acquisition of external funding for these endeavors. Listed below are established procedures for the solicitation of these projects at Dowling. All grant and contract applications for external funding must be submitted through the Director of Grants and Research Funding.
Processing of requests from college employees to seek external funding involves the following steps:
- Project Director (PD) or Principal Investigator (PI): The PD/PI for the project/sponsored activity is responsible for initiating the submission process by completing three copies of the
Dowling College Grant
Proposal Request Form (DCGPRF)
and submitting them, along with completed copies of the proposal, to his/her department chair, the Dean/Administrative Supervisor and the Director of Grants and Research Funding.
- Department Chair Review: The department chair reviews the proposed project to ensure that it is feasible with respect to personnel
and material resources of the department. The department chair then forwards the Dowling College Grant
Proposal Request Form (DCGPRF) to the Dean/Administrative Supervisor with comments, if any.
- Associate Provost Review: The Dean/Administrative Supervisor reviews the proposed project in the context of the mission of the
school and its available personnel and material resources. The Dean/Administrative Supervisor takes cognizance of any comments received from
the department chair and then forwards the Dowling College Grant
Proposal Request Form (DCGPRF) to the Director of Grants and Research Funding with suggestions, if any.
- Director of Grants and Research Funding: The Director of Grants and Research Funding reviews and prepares administrative revisions to the proposal in consultation with the PD/PI. All grant applications are to be submitted to the Director of Grants and Research Funding. Proposals will be reviewed for compliance with the agency/sponsor guidelines, college, state and federal policies. After the initial review, the Director of Grants and Research Funding routes the proposal, as needed, to the appropriate departments for any additional approvals needed.
- Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR): The Director of Grants and Research Funding must submit to the AOR for approval. The Authorized Organizational Representative (President, Provost, VP of Development and External Affairs and CFO) reviews the proposal for consistency with college/school mission and availability and commitment of support services, including time, and space. Matching funds must be reviewed by the CFO.
- Director of Grants and Research Funding: The signed proposal will then be returned to the Project Director / Principal Investigator Director of Grants and Research Funding by the for submission to the agency/sponsor unless prior arrangements have been made with the Director of Grants and Research Funding to assemble and mail or electronically submit the proposal.
The initial submission of a grant proposal (step 1. above) should be made one month prior to the agency/sponsor deadline. Proposals submitted later than 15 days prior to deadline may compromise the College’s ability to provide support. If circumstances create difficulties in meeting this timeline, please contact the Director of Grants and Research Funding’s Office.
