Welcome to the Online Financial Aid section

This section is designed to help you understand the various types of financial aid and scholarship aid programs available for study at Dowling College, to guide you through the application procedures, and to give you related information that is useful in financing your education.

Dowling College offers innovative strategies to assist students in all aspects of financing their education. More than three out of four Dowling students receive some form of financial aid to cover all or part of their educational costs. Through individualized counseling, our professional Financial Assistance staff will consider the specific needs of a student and will prepare a personalized financial aid award package for him or her. This identifies financing options available through institutional, Federal, State, and private sources.

The Office of Financial Aid provides financial aid guidance and support and is located on the first floor of Fortunoff Hall in Room 102. The telephone number is 1-800-DOWLING.

Financial aid programs available at Dowling College include (1) grants and scholarships; (2) student loans; (3) part-time employment; (4) payment plans and educational benefits. Unless other indication is made, applications for all financial aid programs are available in the Financial Aid Office and all awards are made through that office. In general, to be eligible for Federal, State and institutional financial aid, a student must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • make satisfactory academic progress in his/her program of study
  • not be in default on a Federal student loan and not have received an overpayment on a Federal grant
  • be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program of study
  • be enrolled on at least a half-time (6 credits per semester) basis
  • not borrow in excess of annual or aggregate loan limits
  • not have been convicted of certain drug-related offenses

Students applying for funding from New York State must be legal residents of New York State. Residency for college attendance is not sufficient to meet New York State residency regulations.
Additional information concerning the programs described here is available in the Financial Aid Office.

Financial Aid Application Process

Every applicant seeking financial aid must file:
  1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for Federal, State, and institutional need-based aid. Dowling College’s school code for the FAFSA is #002667. (Our priority deadline for receipt of the FAFSA is April 30 for the following award year.) Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply.
  2. The Express Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application to determine eligibility for New York State Grants. Residents of other states should inquire about their home state’s policies and obtain any necessary forms.
  3. Terms and Conditions of Financial Aid form available in the Financial Aid Office or download it from here.

The FAFSA application is available at high school guidance offices and at the Office of Financial Aid at Dowling. TAP applications will be sent to applicants after they file the FAFSA.

Students interested in academic scholarships should complete the admissions process as early as possible, which includes having final (official) transcripts of previous coursework sent to the Office of Enrollment Services. All newly admitted students are considered for merit scholarships to the extent that they are eligible by the Office of Enrollment Services.
