Dr. Michael Sakuma is a recent addition to the Psychology Department at Dowling College. Dr. Sakuma is a Clinical Psychologist who also has training in the field of neuropsychology. He received his doctoral degree in Biopsychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He then served as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Clinical Neuropathology at Oxford University. After completing his work at Oxford, he completed a 2-year clinical respecialization at Columbia University. Recently, Dr. Sakuma just completed an APA-accredited clinical internship at the University of Washington.

Dr. Sakuma comes to Dowling College with many years of experience in such areas as sleep disorder research, chronic pain services, schizophrenia research, and research on mapping cerebral asymmetries. He is also skilled in administering and interpreting a large number of psychological and neuropsychological tests. Dr. Sakuma also brings to the campus proficiencies in major computer formats. He currently manages the Dowling College Psychology Web site.

At Dowling College, Dr. Sakuma's teaching responsibilities will include: Introductory Psychology (Psy 001, 002), Theories of Personality (Psy 112), Abnormal Psychology (Psy 140), CORE (Psy 101, 102), Interpersonal Communication (Psy 150), and Physiological Psychology (Psy 165). Dr. Sakuma will also work to develop outside internship opportunities in Clinical Psychology. He is also the manager of Dowling's psychology website.
