Experience
Professor of Mathematics Instructed statistics, mathematics and computer science courses, and
carried out extensive research at Dowling College for over 20 years. I have created the BS in
Applied Mathematics program, and authored over 10 new courses involving applications of
statistics and mathematics. I have also served as the Mathematics Department Chair, and the
Division of Natural Science and Mathematics Chair.
Statistics Consultant for Advent Design Corporation, MicroStamping Corporation, National Park Service, The Peconic
Baykeeper, Arrow Electronics, Alliant Technical Systems and the Empire Safety Council.
Research Fellow at Rutgers University, NJ, 1992. Worked on Discrete Optimization problems.
Research Fellow at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris France, 1988. Worked on linear programming
research problems.
Research Summary
My laboratory has recently been working on the design and analysis of experiments in
biotechnology. We have used a Lean Six Sigma approach to process design with applications
ranging from the optimization of the fermentation medium for fermentation processes, increasing
the rate of enzyme catalyzed reactions, and finding the toxicity range for environmental
contaminants.
We have also been investigating combinatorial properties of polyhedra arising in discrete
optimization problems. In particular we have recently discovered a new class of polyhedra that
we call the Fibonacci polytopes, and as a special case, the Fibonacci Hypercube. Prior to this,
my laboratory studied polyhedra arising in well known network optimization problems such as the
traveling salesman problem and various transportation problems.
