We are pleased to announce that 7 doctoral candidates enrolled in the Department of Educational, Administration, Leadership, and Technology Doctorate in Educational Administration Program competed and were invited to the American Educational Research Association (AERA) dissertation research Gala and poster presentation session. The annual conference is in Chicago, Illinois this April 2015. Dowling College doctoral candidates under Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote’s mentoring competed with doctoral candidates from various Ivy League and Research I Universities. As winners, their work will be in a poster session at a special session during the annual conference and all will attend a gala in honor of their accomplishment, as AERA is a Tier 1 refereed conference that is highly competitive and having a paper accepted through their blind review process speaks to the doctoral candidate’s ability to conduct research.
“The American Educational Research Association (AERA), a national research society, strives to advance knowledge about education, to encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and to promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good” (www.aera.net). The 2015 conference theme is Toward Justice: Culture, Language, and Heritage in Education Research and Praxis. A goal of AERA is to disseminate and apply research results, which is consistent with the goal of Dowling College’s Doctoral Program.
Congratulations to the following doctoral candidates who were selected to participate in AERAs Gala: Anamaria Cobo de Paci, Frantz Dorsainvil, Hamid Ikram, Patricia Murthy, Claude Stuart, Benedict Tieniber, and Susan Tietje.
Congratulations to Ann Marie Smith and Hector Ramirez, 2 doctoral candidates also enrolled in the Doctorate in Educational Administration Program, who presented their research at the Eastern Educational Research Association Conference (EERA) in February 2015. Ms. Smith and Mr. Ramirez presented a paper with a Dowling College alumni mentor Dr. Juana Roman, as part of the mentorship program developed by Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote. They entered their papers in a presentation competition and both won first place among researchers around the world who entered the competition. “EERA is affiliated with AERA as a member of the AERA Special Interest Group for regional research associations” (www.eeraonline.org).
