- Composition:
Membership is open to all administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of the local community whose interests and priorities are suited to the purpose of the Council. Every effort shall be made to select members from as wide a representation of the college and community as possible.
- Positions and Responsibilities of Officers
Environmental Council Chair/Co-chairs: to organize and lead meetings, produce an agenda for each meeting, oversee coordinators, maintain a broad membership and facilitate the activities of the Environmental Council.
Communications and Events Coordinator: to maintain records of all Council activities, prepare materials for publicity of Council activities and events, compile information to be placed on the Council Web Page, disseminate information about the Council's activities, and plan and organize Council events.
Community Coordinator: a community member who will serve as liaison to the local community.
Grants and Research Coordinator: to make efforts to obtain outside funding for lecture series, conferences, and other expenses, and promote environmental research projects and activities.
Secretary/Treasurer: to keep minutes, prepare an annual budget for consideration by the Administration, oversee budget transactions and oversee financial aspects of grant activities.
Student Affairs Liaisons: Dowling College students who serve as liaison to the student body and initiate student activities.
Coordinator of Intercampus Activities: to set up video conferencing between campuses for all meetings, ensures cooperation and effective communication among members regarding all facets of council activities.
- Procedures
- Elections: Nominations to positions of officers shall be taken at the March meeting, and elections shall be held in April of each year. A quorum shall consist of five members, and a majority vote of a quorum of the members shall be required for election to positions. No proxy votes are allowed.
- Other Decisions: Coordinators make recommendations to the full Council for approval by majority vote. A quorum of five members must be present. No proxy votes are allowed.
- Terms of office
All terms of office shall be for one year, and shall begin September 1 and end August 31.
