Environmental Council Bylaws
- Mission Statement:
To initiate activities and programs that enhance Dowling College's role, visibility, and recognition as an institution where environmental issues are a priority. The Council's commitment is to focus on education, outreach, research, administrative issues, and service to the community.
- Goals:
- To support, encourage, and initiate programs at Dowling College and in the broader community that increase interdisciplinary knowledge about the environment.
- To study, evaluate and make recommendations concerning current uses of facilities, property, and programs relevant to environmental concerns. To advocate changes and to undertake specific projects to enhance the environmental aspects of campus and community sites.
- To encourage policies and processes appropriate to an institution where environmental responsibility is a concern.
- Activities:
- Host conferences, symposia, and workshops.
- Initiate an interdisciplinary lecture series.
- Host brown bag lunches and book discussions.
- Set up attractive display cases on various themes.
- Improve the physical attributes of the campus environment.
- Create and maintain a web page.
- Participate in activities that enhance the ecological values of Dowling College within the local community.
- Sponsor special events and activities that enhance the sense of community at Dowling.
- Initiate institutes and cooperating agreements with other entities that have environmental and conservation activities.
