Student Activities
Clubs and Organizations Field Biology Club
The Club was founded by a close-knit group of concerned students and Faculty
Advisor Dr. Lori Zaikowski who shared a desire to pursue the following
objectives:
- to explore forests, meadows, rivers, lakes, and oceans; discover the
flora and fauna that exist there.
- to foster appreciation of nature.
- to apply classroom biology knowledge to natural habitats.
- to promote conservation of natural resources and ecosystems.
- to cultivate a sense of community among Dowling students.
- to educate the public
Membership is open to all Dowling students.
Members of the Club have gone on canoe excursions on Peconic, Connetquot
and Carmans Rivers, sailing to Fire
Island National Seashore, on hiking trips, to Wertheim National Wildlife
Refuge, the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research, the American Museum
of Natural History, Raptor
Trust and Explorer's Club, and other places of interest. The Club,
in cooperation with the Chemistry Department, sponsors the Annual Symposium
and Clam Bake on the South
Shore Estuary held at Dowling each year in May, which includes canoeing/kayaking
on the Connetquot River.
The Field Biology Club looks forward to another fruitful year and many
interesting trips afield and afar. We welcome new members from all majors.
Anyone with an interest in nature and in being part of our many fascinating
endeavours, should come to our meetings and join the fun!
