| Dress to Impress |
Success at work is not only affected by performance, but also by appearance. The clothes that you wear give people an impression about your standing in an organization, work habits and confidence. To help you put your best foot forward, we have compiled a list of recommendations.
What to Wear
- Always select clothes that fit your body properly-not too large or too tight
- Look at how the people in your organization dress; is the style business casual, mainstream business or corporate? Select clothing based upon this.
- Dress for the position you want to be in-look promotable!
- Select colors that flatter your skin tone
- Solid colors offer a more sophisticated feel and offer more mix and match options
- Utilize scarves/ties and accessories to add color and bring together your outfit
- If you have a casual or dress down day, keep in mind that you are still a professional representing your organization. Clothes that should never be worn to work include: anything that is ripped or torn, stained, wrinkled, tanks or camisoles, sweatshirts, overly short skirts, sweatpants or casual T-shirts (particularly with logos).
- Remember sloppy and comfortable are not synonyms!
Assessing your Current Wardrobe
The Winners:
- Properly fitting, flattering classics that you love to wear. This is the foundation on which you will build your wardrobe.
Potential Winners:
- Items that have potential but may need an alteration or button or zipper replacement to become a winner.
The Losers:
- Cheap, unflattering, worn or poorly fitting clothes. Remove these items from your closet and dispose of them. You probably don′t wear them anyway.
Building your Professional Persona
- Purchase clothes that look great and fit well
- Avoid fabrics that look cheap and wear quickly
- Buy quality made items in classic styles
- Select pieces to mix and match, buy for outfits not pieces!
- Shop with a purpose not on a whim, sales don′t mean that a piece is good value unless it is a flattering fit and color on you.
