Writing Your Cover Letter
Components of a Cover Letter:
- Introduction Paragraph
- Announce the position for which you are applying
- Indicate how you learned about the position
- If possible, show that you are familiar with this particular company and its products or services.
- Indicate how you can fit in, or be of value as an employee.
- Content Paragraph(s)
- Describe yourself and your strengths in relation to the position.
- Relate your assets to the position without repeating the information you have outlined in your resume.
- Use words and phrases that describe you as an individual, e.g., highly motivated, experienced, mature, enthusiastic, etc.
- Use words that indicate you are knowledgeable about the techniques, responsibilities and procedures required by the position.
- Closing Paragraph
- Refer to your enclosed resume.
- Set the stage for an interview and further contact.
