DOWLING MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS QUEENS COLLEGE, 3-0

Brookhaven, NY- In their 5th straight win, the Dowling College Men’s Soccer team defeated the Queens College Knights, 3-0.

Junior F Lamine Traore (Mali, Africa) had another outstanding game, scoring 2 goals for Dowling, his second multiple-goal game in a row.  His first goal came in the 24th minute as sophomore MF El Hadji Mbow (Thies, Senegal) launched a long ball assist, allowing Traore to punch it into the right corner from 5 yards out.

In a bizarre play during the 50th minute, freshman F Kyle Fuerst (Athens, PA) was able to kick a shot from 5 yards out after a long scramble in the box that left the net open.  However, the kick was knocked down by an opponent’s hand, initially causing the officials to issue a red card.  After meeting, the officials ruled the ball had already crossed into the net, withdrawing the red card and allowing the goal to stand.

Traore scored his 2nd goal of the game, 7th on the season, in the 70th minute as freshman MF Brandon Levine (Goshen, NY) kicked the short assist with Lamine shooting it into the middle of the goal from 5 yards out, putting the game away.

Queens GK Ivan Salame recorded 7 saves on the game as Dowling GK Nemanja Veljovic (Belgrade, Serbia) tallied his 7th shutout of the season.

Queens falls to 6-3-1 overall as Dowling moves to 8-2-0 overall, 3-0-0 in ECC play.

Dowling looks to continue their stellar play against Molloy this Saturday, October 11th at 1:00pm at Golden Lions Field.
