FIVE STUDENT ATHLETES EARN WEEKLY ECC HONORS

Jessica Gall (Meadow Vista, CA ) and Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro) of the Volleyball team, Edo Eloni (Haniel, Israel) of the Men’s Soccer team, and Vanessa Moreira (Selden, NY) and Alicia Commisso (Floral Park, NY) of the Women’s Soccer team have earned weekly ECC Honors.

Gall was named Volleyball Co-Player of the Week after helping the Golden Lions to an undefeated week. In four matches she had 67 digs, including 21 against Adelphi, to average 4.78 per game. She also added 4 service aces over the four matches.

Potpara was named Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week and for the fifth time on the season. Potpara tallied 78 assists, 40 kills and hit .441 in the team’s 4-0 week. Her strongest performance of the week came against Adelphi when she posted a triple-double with 18 assists, 10 digs, and 11 kills.

Eloni was named Men’s Soccer Rookie of the week after picking up his first assist on the season, feeding Lamine Traore’s goal in a 3-0 victory over C.W. Post.

Moreira earned Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the second time on the season. In conference wins over STAC and Queens, Moreira scored 3 goals and also added 1 assist. In a 4-0 victory over STAC, she scored the first two goals, including the game winner. In a 2-1 victory over Queens, she added a goal and also assisted on the game winner.

Commisso was named the Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week after stopping 20 of 22 shots on goal in a 2-1 week. She turned aside 8 shots to preserve a 4-0 shutout over STAC while adding 9 saves in a 1-0 loss against Assumption. Commisso ended the week with a 3 save performance for the win against Queens to help Dowling remain undefeated in the ECC while boasting a .914 save percentage.
