Alumni Council Member Bio
Leroy E. Douglas
Leroy E. Douglas graduated from Dowling College, nee Adelphi Suffolk College, in 1964 in Dowling's second graduating class, with a major in History. After obtaining a Masters +60 credits at New York University, from 1964 to 1968, he taught at William H. Taft High School in the Bronx and at Forest Hills High School in Queens for 34 years before retiring in 2003. In 2001, the New York Times selected him as one of its "Teachers Who Made a Difference" designees. A founder of the LI-Republic Airport Historical Society, Douglas had written numerous historical articles for the Long Island Forum, Nassau County Historical Journal and the Journal of Long Island History, which is currently publishing his articles on "The Origins of Adelphi Suffolk College: 1953-1960." He also worked as an investigative reporter for the Babylon Beacon from 1983-1989 after years of civic involvement in Wyandanch and the Town of Babylon. Mr. Douglas and his wife, Noeleen, live in Valley Stream.
