Letter from the President

A Letter from the PresidentPresident

Dear Alumni:

Coming to the end of my first year as President of Dowling College, I want to take this opportunity to update you on the various accomplishments made thus far.

[1] Negotiations with the faculty were successfully completed to achieve a savings of 4 million dollars.

[2] Reached compliance with 13 out of the 14 standards for accreditation used by the Middle States Commission to measure “Characteristics of Excellence.” I am confident that the remaining standard related to finances will be met in the very near future.

[3] Secured 6.7 million dollars in new funding through the issuance of a new bond series through Oppenheimer

[4] Negotiated forbearance for one year on the debt service to our existing bonds.

[5] Formed three successful partnerships with private, for-profit companies. All three of which are focused on strengthening domestic and international enrollment.

[6] Received approval from Middle States to open an extension campus in Manhattan, located in Battery Park City. We will begin offering our MBA at that site in January.

[7] Strengthened the Board of Trustees by adding one new member with a second member scheduled for approval.

[8] Increased the incoming class of freshmen, transfer students, and graduate students by approximately 40% helping to stabilize enrollment.

[9] Added several new majors, including Video Game Design, Sustainability, and Global Studies.

What is most important now is to build a strong Alumni base. Please go to our Alumni page and you will find the invitation to our October 7th Gala at Oheka Castle. This will be an evening that kicks off several events aimed toward the celebration of Dowling’s Golden Jubilee scheduled for Fall 2018. We hope that you will join us!

We are in the process of hiring a new Director of Alumni and Development who is expected to begin on, or about, September 1st. Together we will be strengthening our connections with Alumni through a variety of unique strategies.

Also, if you are in the general area of metropolitan New York City, please listen to our partners at CBS radio where we will begin to air promotion advertisements for Dowling College throughout the year. They will appear on 1010 WINS; 880 News; and, WFAN. Ads will also appear on all web-based content of CBS – Dowling Radio clip.

Please reach out to me if you would like to help us strategically. We need support for internships, guest speakers, and adjunct faculty. We hope you will be part of our future.
