The Golden Lions opened the 2014 season with a 9-7 record versus non-conference opponents, highlighted by wins over nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University. The Blue and Gold took East Coast Conference play by storm, finishing with a 19-5 conference record, capturing the ECC Regular Season title. The Golden Lions entered the ECC Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed and despite finishing second, Dowling earned an “At Large” berth into the NCAA East Regional Tournament, their third appearance in the past four seasons. The Golden Lions reached the East Region championship game before falling to St. Thomas Aquinas College, ending their season at 36-17.
Senior Tyler Badamo led the way after finishing the year with a 9-3 record, finishing second in the nation with a 0.83 ERA over 108.2 innings, while tallying a record breaking 129 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .197 batting average against. His impressive season earned Badamo a long list of honors, including being named All-American by Daktronics, American Baseball Coaches Association, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Other awards earned were Daktronics, ABCA, and NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Year, Daktronics All-East Region First Team, NCBWA All-East Region First Team, ABCA All-East Region First Team, East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, and ECC All-Conference First Team.
Four additional Golden Lions would receive All-Region honors with six making ECC All-Conference teams along with Head Coach Tom Caputo being names the ECC baseball Coach of the Year.
