I have been in Lima, Peru for almost a year now. The experience has proved to be priceless. I have learned more than I could have hoped for in so many ways. Before I left for Peru, I could read Spanish and speak at my own rate. When I arrived it was a bit of a shock. I had difficulties speaking, but after a while that no longer was a problem. I am now fluent and understand more Spanish than I could have dreamed of. I even dream in Spanish. I recently gave a presentation in Spanish about the educational system in Peru, something I could have never done so well before coming here.

My initial goal was to become fluent in Spanish. Thanks to this program I have accomplished that and much, much more. I have met people from all over the world - other exchange students and a lot of Peruvians. The Peruvian culture as a whole is very welcoming and I did not have any problems making friends. Within a week I had more friends than time permitted.

I have had the opportunity to taste foods that I had never heard of in my life, and traveled to see many wonderful things that I did not know existed. I also have learned how to be super independent. Peru is a place that is very special to me and I know will very special for any other Dowling student.
