Preparing For Arrival

Travel Safety

The U.S. Department of State is closely monitoring world events and the impact that these events have on international travel. For the most current information click here.

Health Insurance & Immunization Records

Health insurance is very important because of the high cost of medical care in the United States.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY HEALTH INSURANCE AT HOME — Dowling College requires that all International Students have the health insurance plan provided by the college.  You will receive detailed information about this insurance when you arrive.  The cost of this insurance will be billed directly to your student account.

Visa & Immigration Issues

  • If Dowling issued a Form I-20 for the F-1 Student Visa, show this form to the U.S. Consulate or Embassy when applying for your F-1 Student Visa. You will be required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) to attend the school whose I-20 you use to enter the U.S. If you plan to study at Dowling College do not use the I-20 form of another school to enter the U.S..
  • Transfer students: Students already studying in the U.S. must follow required USCIS procedures for transferring schools. Go to the International Student Advisor at your CURRENT SCHOOL AND REQUEST A TRANSFER TO DOWLING COLLEGE. F-1 students who are transferring into Dowling College must come to the International Student Office upon arrival at Dowling for assistance with the transfer process and should have clearance from their previous school showing that they were in full-time attendance during the most recent term.
