Admissions
Freshman Admission Policy

We consider freshman applicants for admission based on the level and range of high school courses selected, grades achieved, SAT or ACT scores, recommendations and a personal portfolio*. In high school, the following should have been completed:
  • Four years of English
  • Four years of social studies
  • Three of years mathematics
  • Two years of science (at least one of which is with a lab)
  • Two years of foreign language
  • One additional year of either math, science, or college preparatory coursework
We may also consider other factors in the review process, such as:
  • Class rank
  • Honors courses
  • AP courses
We do not just use standardized test scores or grades in our decision, but we are also very interested in personal qualities that will offer us a complete view of each applicant and the potential for success as a student at Dowling College, such as:
  • Extracurricular involvement
  • Community services
  • Special interests
While we do not require an interview for admissions, it provides an excellent opportunity to visit the campus and discuss educational goals with one of our Enrollment Counselors. To schedule an appointment, call 631-244-3303 or email us at admissions@dowling.edu.

All incoming freshmen who have not earned college credit in Math or English will be required to take placement tests to assess their need for remediation, and, unless they place out, enroll in our Skills Development Program prior to taking any college level courses.

Admission credentials that are required to review an application for acceptance include:
  • A completed undergraduate application for admissions
  • An application fee of $25
  • An official high school transcript, with standardized test scores
  • Official copies of SAT or ACT scores for scholarship consideration
  • Letter of recommendation from either a guidance counselor or teacher
  • Personal Portfolio*
*A Personal Portfolio should contain either an essay or personal statement and anything pertinent to making an admissions decision at Dowling College.
