An exciting career, a great education! Full Degree Requirements with Class Descriptions The Sport Management field is rapidly growing both nationally and internationally. It has been recognized as one of the top 25 career choices for women. It is an industry with a gross national product (GNP) in excess of $100 billion. The study of Sport Management may lead to professional careers with sports or franchises, league operations, player personnel, intercollegiate sports programs, events planning, sports marketing, or managing sports facilities.
A combined degreee that integrates the qualities and expertise of two of the most dynamic departments at Dowling College: The Department of Physical Education and the Department of Management. Professional Focus Students take courses focusing on the unique business and ethical issues of the sports industry. Courses include topics in Sport Facility Management; Sports Information, Publicity and Marketing; Event Planning and Management; Communication, Media and Technology; Sports Law and Player Contracts; and Sports Personnel Management. Guest speakers and lectureres enhance the professional focus of the program. Guest speakers have included team owners, sports agents, general managers, marketing directors, and professional players. Liberal Arts Core To enhance the student's base of general knowledge, as well as his or her analytical and communication skills, the student will study such areas as economics, philosophy, writing, language skills, natural science, sociology, and other academic disciplines.
