Gerald J. Curtin
Gerald J. Curtin is a fourth generation Long Islander. During his years at Dowling he was instrumental in starting a Lacrosse Club and went on to coach Dowling Lacrosse for over ten years and won numerous NCAA Division Championships.

Jerry began a career in teaching at Western Suffolk BOCES. He earned a Master′s Degree at Adelphi University and received his certification as Chief School Administrator from Long Island University. After just four years of teaching and just 26 years old, he became the Director of Special Education in the Kings Park Central School District. Here he facilitated the return of over 120 students from out-of-district placements back to their home schools.

While attending high school and college and during his education career, Jerry worked as a Jones Beach Lifeguard for 15 years. The purchasing of sophisticated infrared imaging equipment and the founding Thermotest Inc. soon became a full-time endeavor. Thermotest developed and implemented a program for testing of electrical and mechanical equipment for U.S. Naval aircraft carriers. This same technology was expanded to perform this service on Exxon Oil super tankers and Hellenic Line cargo ships.

The infrared imaging equipment was also used to detect sub-surface moisture in roofs and produced cost-savings to building owners contemplating roof replacement. Thermotest became the stepping stone for the creation of Statewide Roofing where Jerry is the Chief Executive Officer. The company grew rapidly and was named as "One of the Fastest Growing Companies on Long Island" by Long Island Business News. Statewide Roofing is located in Islip, New York and specializes in educational and commercial re-roofing on Long Island.

Jerry′s involvement in the community spans many years. He served on the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency, East Islip School District′s Building and Renovation Committee, Scoutmaster of Troop 205 and served on The Suffolk County Boy Scouts Executive Board. Statewide Roofing proudly sponsors Pack 205 in Great River. Jerry received East Islip′s Parent Teacher Association′s coveted Jenkins Award for his outstanding community service. He is currently the Treasurer of the New York Department of American Ex-Prisoners of War.

Jerry has been connected with Dowling in some way for many of his post-graduate years. He was the first recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award in 1993. Dowling′s Athletic Department inducted Jerry into their first group of the Golden Lions′ Hall of Fame. Jerry has served on Dowling′s Board of Trustees for the last ten years. His 40 year dream came to fruition as he spearheaded, with the help of his fellow trustees, the building of the Brookhaven Sports Complex.

Jerry and his wife, Rose Mary, believe in and financially support Dowling and its mission as evidenced by the dedication of the Gerald and Rose Mary Curtin Student Center, the Dominick and Clara Buonaspina Endowed Scholarship and the Gerald and Rose Mary Curtin Education Endowment.

Jerry is still active at Statewide and enjoys his downtime with his wife Rose Mary, his son Timothy, daughter Gerilyn, son-in-law Peter Lessing and grandson Maxwell.
