Tenure-track Position in Anthropology/Sociology
The Anthropology/Sociology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in
cultural anthropology.
Geographical area open, with preference for Africa or Latin America.
TOPICAL SPECIALTY: Globalization and/or international development, especially health,
alternative or radical economic theory and practice (e.g. emic ways to measure well-being),

Position
Dowling College's School of Aviation is seeking applicants for a tenure track position. A Ph.D.
degree in an aviation related field or a Ph.D. degree in business with expertise in an aviation
related field is required. Experience within the aviation industry is preferred as is teaching
experience within a higher education environment. Applicants nearing Ph.D. graduation will be
considered. Course instruction may include subject matter related to Airline Management, Airport

Psychology Department Tenure Track Position
The Psychology Department at Dowling College announces a tenure track position at the assistant
professor rank beginning September 1, 2009. Applicants with a background in cognitive,
social-cognitive or developmental psychology or academic clinical psychologists and
neuropsychologists with relevant expertise will be considered.
Applicant must possess a PhD in field. Position requires teaching undergraduate courses in
cognitive psychology, statistics and experimental design, and graduate courses in statistics and
research methods, as well as cognitive and affective aspects of behavior. An active research
program which includes undergraduates is strongly desired, gender/sexuality studies a plus, as
well as a strong commitment to working productively in an expanding Psychology department which

Flight Instructor (Full-time and Part-time Positions)
DEPARTMENT: School of Aviation
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for conducting individual flight instruction with Dowling
College Flight students. To include ground lessons and flight simulation training for their students.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Conduct flight training for the Private Pilot Flight Lab, Instrument Rating Flight Lab,
Commercial Pilot Flight Lab, Multi-Engine Flight Lab and all Flight Instructor Flight Labs.
Flight Instruction will include all basic and advanced flight maneuvers such as steep turns,
turns around a point, normal take-offs and landings, short and soft field take-offs and
landings, power on and power off stalls, chandelles and lazy eights. It will also include
day and night cross-country flights of up to 300 nautical miles form Brookhaven Airport under
both VFR and IFR conditions. Instructors will also give extensive emergency procedures
training to students during all stages of flight.
- Conduct one-on-one ground school training to each student on there particular course.
Ground training will include aerodynamics, aero-medical factors, high altitude operations,
ground operations, etc. Instructors are also required to do oral examinations of the
material covered in previous lessons. A minimum of 20 minutes will be spent on each lesson
conducting pre and post flight briefings.
- Conduct flight simulation in the FRASA 241 and 242. Instructors will introduce all
maneuvers in the simulator prior to performing the maneuver in the airplane.
- Scheduling of flight and ground training sessions will be the instructors' responsibility.
Instructors will have each student on for two, 2 hour lessons each week. The instructor will
coordinate with their students to ensure students are aware of their lesson time and what type
of equipment will be used.
- Instructors are responsible for obtaining FAA required documentation (birth certificate,
passport, driver license, medical etc.) from students and turning it in to the Assistant Chief
Flight Instructor.
- Instructors are required to log every flight in each students personal logbook and 141
record folder. They must also track total time, dual time, solo time, cross-country time,
night time and number of take-offs and landing. Instructors are required to log and track any
other necessary time not mentioned.
- Conduct tours for perspective students of aircraft, flight simulators and ATC laboratory.
Instructors must have a working knowledge of Dowling College in order to adequately answer any
question presented by either a student or parent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 200 flight hours
- Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Certified Flight Instructor Certificate

Bus Driver – On Call
DEPARTMENT:
Facilities Services/Transportation
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reports to the Senior Facilities Administrator. The principal assignment of this position is to
professionally transport the college's students and such other persons as may from time to time
be required, in a safe, efficient manner, subject to the rules and regulations provided by the
college, while to the extent possible also protecting the college equipment from damage.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Drive the vehicles of the college in a safe manner, obeying all traffic laws pertinent to
the transportation of students and other passengers.
- Must maintain a clean valid New York State Driver License.
- Attend all training programs and other meetings as required unless specifically excused by
college administration.
- Inspect and report to the college as required, the condition of the vehicle driven,
including physical damage, maintenance conditions, and other issues pertinent to the efficient
and safe operation of the vehicles.
- Report to college administration any new moving traffic violation recorded on license,
regardless of whether it occurred on or off the job, within 10 days of its recording on the
driver's license.
- Provide once per year, within two months prior to September 1, certification from a
physician that the driver's health is satisfactory to continue driving for the college, and
certification from an ophthalmologist or other eye care professional that the driver's vision
is satisfactory to continue driving for the college.
- Be knowledgeable about and follow all college procedures and requirements concerning
reporting of any accident involving a college vehicle.
- Report to the college any change in health, personal circumstances, or other condition
that may adversely affect the employee's ability to satisfactorily perform these tasks as
required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a CDL appropriate to permit employee to drive any bus carrying passengers.

Ceramics Assistant (Temporary)
DEPARTMENT:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Studio Manager – Ceramics, the Studio Assistant
will be responsible to assist with the day-to-day operation of the ceramics lab.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Fire, load and unload kilns.
- Measure and mix glazes.
- Assist professors with lectures and demonstrations as needed.
- Interface with Studio Manager regarding daily usage of studio, as well as maintenance and security issues when necessary.
- Interface with Facilities Department for immediate assistance with maintenance issues.
- Assist students with technical and aesthetic issues during open studio hours.

Career Services Internship Associate - Full Time
DEPARTMENT:
Student Services – Office of Career Services
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs responsible professional day-to-day operations and maintenance of NYS-DOL funded
initiative to develop and institute paid internship opportunities with for-profit businesses for
Dowling College students within the New York regional area. Requires daily contact with
students, college faculty and staff to promote and manage this internship program. This
position will work independently under the direction and supervision of the Asst. Director of
Student Services for Career Services. This position requires the complete and accurate
intake/entry of student internship data/information into computer systems required to effectively
measure career-related contributions for the College, as well as provide metrics and data to
the State of New York DOL Workforce Development and Training Division. Decisions regarding
internship assignments (for-credit and/or not-for-credit) are of vital importance to the
institution as well as the individual students and partner employers.
In the maintenance of this grant initiative, the FT Internship Associate will also have
responsibility for continued development and expansion of the following areas: Career
Assessment and all Career Counseling Services; Designing and Delivering customized career
workshops and programs; Developing Career Research and Job Search Resources; and Developing
Employer Relations and Recruitment Events.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Plan and implement Career Services on-campus student internship program information
sessions for both new and current students, faculty and parents.
- Work proactively with local/regional organization liaisons and Dowling College department
representatives and faculty in the cultivation of new and/or re-establish renewed employer
partnerships for internships, other experiential education opportunities, and job placement.
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of internship program marketing/promotional
efforts to students, new alumni, and employers.
- Receive and perform "intake" of prospective student interns, verify eligibility
requirements, match students with employer opportunities, and facilitate internship
registration decisions and/or related processes.
- Assist with student resume and interview preparation as well as participation in planning
and presenting career-related workshops and events.
- Advise and/or offer direction to student interns concerning college payment decisions and
processes, as required with "for-credit" internships.
- Attend and/or participate in student retention activities to promote workforce readiness
in alignment with career, academic and social goals, including facilitation of student
attendance at professional development, educational and networking events (on and off campus).
- Gather and tabulate metrics (employer evaluations, job placement data, compensation
rates, etc.) each semester for students that participate in the internship program.
- Serve as an advocate for student interaction with academic and administrative departments
for additional internship opportunities and industry-specific insight/knowledge.
- Develop and maintain professional knowledge of all campus degree programs and of evolving
enrollment services, financial aid, bursar payment, registrar practices and procedures
- Develop and maintain good working relations with Dowling faculty and staff
- Assist in special career-related (i.e., employment fairs, education recruitment) and
campus-wide events (i.e., open house and orientation), and other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred Masters degree in counseling, career development, business administration, human
resources, college student personnel OR related field or equivalent experience Bachelor's Degree
with 2 plus years of related experience.
- Experience with counseling college-level students involving career development/employment
issues and demonstrated understanding of career development and/or human resources issues.
- Experience in the design and delivery of customized workshops/programs/events.
- Demonstrated experience in outreach and building relationships within community and
business organizations.

HVAC Senior Mechanic
DEPARTMENT:
Facilities Services
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Facilities Services. Oversees all aspects of operating and maintenance of mechanical aspects of the College’s HVAC system. Ensures compliance and documentation of HVAC system for town, Fire Marshall and insurance companies.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Checks and maintains low pressure Boiler Systems. Maintains campus Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Schedules preventative maintenance programs for HVAC equipment.
- Trouble-shoots and repairs single and three phase electric motor control systems.
- Responsible for cooling and heat start-ups.
- Maintains air compressors.
- Maintains exhaust units, checks and cleans steam and chilled water traps.
- Ensures proper sealing of dampers for air actuators.
- Checks thermostats and floats.
- Repairs and replaces valves as needed.
- Checks and maintains heat exchanges.
- Evaluates conditions provide solutions and coordinates or perform tasks to correct or improve conditions as needed.
- Contacts outside vendors as needed to perform appropriate services and recommends approval of associated cost.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Orders supplies and equipment and procures same as necessary.
- Evaluates vendor quotes and recommend purchases.
- Maintains reports as required and provides maintenance schedules and status reports as needed.
- Coordinates the necessary documentation for all the HVAC equipment for the Town, Fire Marshal, and Insurance Co.
- Plans for campus HVAC upgrades.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of experience; knowledge of all methods and equipment used in the HVAC field; CFC Universal License (chlorofluorocarbons). Must maintain a clean valid New York State Driver License, high school diploma or recognized equivalent; knowledge of OSHA regulations and HASMAT requirements. General working knowledge of mechanical blueprints and schematics. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
